Why is Christianity so exclusive if truth should be universal?

Christianity is sometimes criticized for being exclusive. Jesus said, “No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). At first, this sounds narrow. But truth, by nature, is exclusive.

If two plus two equals four, then it cannot also equal five. In the same way, if Jesus truly is the Son of God who died and rose again, then no other path to God is valid.

At the same time, Christianity is inclusive in who may come. Salvation is offered to all people—rich or poor, young or old, from every culture. Anyone who believes in Jesus is welcome.

The exclusiveness of Christianity is not about keeping people out but about showing the only way in. If Jesus is the cure for sin, it would be unloving to point to other remedies that do not work.

So Christianity is exclusive in truth but universal in invitation. All may come, but only through Jesus, the one true Savior.
