Is Christianity just one culture’s religion?

Some think Christianity belongs only to Western culture, like Europe or America. But from the start, Christianity was global.

Jesus was born in the Middle East, not the West. The first Christians came from Jewish, Greek, and Roman backgrounds. By the second and third centuries, Christianity had already spread to Africa, Asia, and beyond.

Today, Christianity is the most widespread religion in the world. There are more Christians in Africa, Asia, and Latin America than in Europe or North America. It is not tied to one culture but has taken root in many different ones.

The reason is simple: Christianity is not about following a culture but about following Christ. Its message is for all people. The Bible says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

Far from being one culture’s religion, Christianity is the most cross-cultural faith in history. It unites people of every background around one Savior.
