Can prayer actually change anything?

People wonder if prayer changes anything, since God already knows everything. The Bible teaches that prayer is powerful and does make a difference.

Prayer is not about changing God’s mind, as if He needs to be convinced. Instead, it is part of His plan. God chooses to work through the prayers of His people. James 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

We see examples in the Bible. Elijah prayed for rain, and God answered. The early church prayed for Peter in prison, and he was miraculously freed. These stories show that God responds to prayer.

Prayer also changes us. It strengthens our faith, gives peace, and aligns our hearts with God’s will. Even when God does not answer as we expect, prayer brings us closer to Him.

So, prayer does change things—both in the world and in our hearts. God invites us to pray, and He promises to listen.
