Some people think faith and evidence are opposites. They believe faith means believing without proof. But in Christianity, faith and evidence go together.
Faith is trust. It is like trusting a bridge to hold you. You may have good reasons to trust it—it looks strong, others have crossed safely—but you still take the step of walking across. Faith in God works the same way. Evidence gives reasons, and faith is the step of trust.
The Bible shows this pattern. Jesus did miracles so people would believe. After His resurrection, He showed Himself to Thomas and said, “Stop doubting and believe” (John 20:27). Faith was based on what Thomas saw.
Evidence for faith includes creation, which points to a Creator. The reliability of the Bible, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the resurrection of Jesus are also strong reasons. Personal experiences of changed lives add further support.
Faith is not against evidence. It builds on it. Evidence brings us to the door, and faith is stepping through to trust God personally.
