Is Christianity based on myths from older religions?

Some claim Christianity borrowed from ancient myths like those of Osiris or Mithras. But this idea does not hold up.

First, the so-called similarities are exaggerated. Pagan myths often involve gods dying and returning in symbolic ways tied to seasons or fertility. They are not about real people in history. Jesus, however, lived at a specific time and place, with eyewitnesses who recorded His death and resurrection.

Second, the timing is wrong. Many myths said to be similar actually developed after Christianity spread, not before. They may have borrowed from Christianity, not the other way around.

Third, the message is unique. Pagan myths do not teach salvation by grace or a personal relationship with God. The resurrection of Jesus is about victory over sin and death, not a cycle of nature.

Even non-Christian scholars agree the idea that Christianity is just a copy of myths is weak. The evidence shows Christianity is rooted in history, not mythology.
